I. LIBRARY- A GENERAL NOTE :
In the year 1987, our College Library had a humble start with a
small collection of books. Today our computerized bar coded
library has grown enormously in its book collection and digital
collection. At present, the carpet area of our library is 3,300
sq.ft with the availability of 64 seats. It is now packed with
total collection of 25,511 volumes (including pamphlets and back
volumes), 463 digital collections 35 non- book materials and also
118 periodicals.
Our library provides services like Lending service, Reference
service, Reprographic service and Newspaper Clipping service to
its users. Open Access system is followed in our library. The
software used in the library namely AUTOLIB Version 5.0. enables
the users to renew, reserve and search the availability of books
by browsing the system using OPAC (Open Access Public
Catalogue). Normally 1300 volumes are under circulation. The
number of books issued per day ranges between 125 and 250. The
number of visitors per day ranges between 200 and 400.
Our library is primarily meant for the students and the members of
the staff of our college. The old students of our college, staff
members from our sister concerns and the residents of U.G and P.G
Hostels are also permitted to use the library.
II. ARRANGEMENT OF THE
COLLECTION
a. BOOKS
The books are arranged in a classified order according to
S.R.Ranganathan’s Sixth Edition of Colon Classification Scheme
(CC).
b. PERIODICALS
Current periodicals are arranged on the display racks in a broad
subject categories with a serial number assigned for each journal
for easy identification with the aid of alphabetical display list.
c. BACK VOLUMES
All the back files of the journals are arranged on shelves in the
alphabetical order of the title of each journal.
III. LIBRARY
HOURS
On Working days 9 A.M to 5 P.M
On Saturdays and Semester holidays 10 A.M to 4 P.M
Library is closed on Sundays and on Government holidays.
IV. CHENDHUR VATTAM
To inculcate and induce the reading habit among the student
community, the library organizes a programme named CHENDHUR VATTAM
at frequent intervals. In this programme books are reviewed by the
experts.
V. BEST USER AWARD
To motivate the students to use the library effectively, our
library instituted the ‘Best User Award’ for the students from the
academic year 2006-2007. Two students are selected every year for
this award. The following students won the Best User Award:
